The Sequence by Arne Quinze

After the Cityscape construction (which is still there!), Brussels has a second Arne Quinze masterpiece.  On Sunday November 16, ‘The Sequence’ was officialy inaugurated.

The giant wooden structure connects the House of Flemish Representatives with the Flemish Parliament.  It will stay there for at least 5 years.

Concrete and wood are the materials used for this construction.  But sustainability was an important issue.  All used wood has the EFC-label, which means that for every tree cut there will be planted a new one.

Next year we can expect another Arne Quinze-project in Brussels as a part of the newly build Square – Brussels Meeting Centre.  Hooray!

Terra Tinez

If you love good eigties music, you should download one of Tinez’ mixes.  He’s a Belgian DJ with a deep love for italo, miami bass and soulful music in general.  As a graphic designer he’s also involved with the Flexx label and he has something with old Lamborghinis.  Gotta love this guy…

Edgy Retro Corvette

The Corvette is one of those really iconic American muscle cars.  In 2005 ‘Corvette’ became an independant marque, this was also the year the sixth generation (C6) was launched.

Over the years the car lost some of it’s raw, edgy, powerful design.  Best example of this style were the two ‘Mako Shark’ Corvettes designed by Larry Shinoda in the sixties.

Luckily enough a designer called Christian Cyrulewski (who is this man?) designed a new body for the C6.  For the moment this is only a ‘sketch’, let’s hope he’ll find enough interested people with a lot of money to make a prototype.

iYo: Yoyo with a cause

A lot of iPod Touch and iPod owners are a bit dissappointed by the battery life.  Swedish product designer Peter Thuvander thought of a remarkable and ubercool solution, the iYo.  An induction charged yoyocharger for Apple.

Since he lives in Sweden, a solar charger wouldn’t solve the problem.  So induction would be the right technology,  a small onboard LI cell stores the electricity generated.  No need to charge as you yoyo. Yoyo and then charge.

You can find a small promo video on his website: www.peterthuvander.se I for one hope that he will find someone to bring this into production.

Marcel's HQ Blog

One of the little projects that I have been working on from time to time is the personal blog of the owner and editor-in-chief of HeadQuarters magazine.
This company publishes professional information for the assocation meeting professionals on a Pan-European level.

It still needs some work but we’re getting there.  Many thanks to Scott Wallick for the Simplr theme.

Aston Martin One-77

Aston Martin released a bit more information on their supercar, the One-77.

The engine will be a heavily-revised version of the DBS’s six-litre V12, bored out to seven litres and developing something around 700bhp – a jump of nearly 200bhp over the not-at-all-slow DBS.
Also the weight should be no more than 1 500 kg, thanks to the carbon fibre monocoque.  This combination of power and low weight should give it the potential to reach 100 km/h under four seconds.

Oh, and the most astonishing number still is its price tag of 1 million British pounds.

Update 13/11/2008

Aston Martin made a second trailer video available.

Pentawards 2008 Diamond Award

The Pentawards is the first and only worldwide competition devoted to packaging design in all its forms. I particularly like packiging design because of its democratic nature, it’s something we are confronted with every day.

The highest prize – Diamond Award – is awarded to the ‘Piper Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage’ by Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf.

“How do you do something new with something timeless? We had only one answer: reverse the proportions” This is how the two Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf express it.

Kristallnacht – November 9/10, 1938

Tonight 70 years ago the infamous ‘Kristallnacht’ toke place.  Although most young people in Belgium only know this name because of the party night in Ghent in December called ‘Kristalnacht’, it’s good to remember that 92 people were murdered and 25 – 30 000 were arrested.  All Jews ofcourse.  They were deported to the concentration camps later on.

In a single night over 200 synagogues and thousands of Jewish houses and businesses were destroyed.  Hence the name ‘Kristallnacht’ that refers to the great amounts of broken glass.

This event is often seen as the real beginning of the Holocaust, which led to execution of approximately six million European Jews.  The day after, Hermann Göring said: “The Jewish problem will reach its solution if, in any time soon, we will be drawn into war beyond our border—then it is obvious that we will have to manage a final account with the Jews.”

DISKOKAINE (ST.VEIT/GLAN, VIENNA)

In his own words:

My mother says that my haircut looks like shit and i should not drink coca cola after 5pm because than i cant sleep…..i’m 25years old though!! my dad doesnt care about that but he thinks that i cant deal with money….especially the money i dont earn by myself! several promotors from berlin, nyc, london, turkey, warsaw, chicago, paris, amsterdamn etc…invited me in the last 12 month to play my bad music at their parties.somehow they didnt invite me ever again!

Nevertheless A.Robotnick,Princess Superstar and Legowelt think i’ll have a big future…..thanks to this naivity of them that they worked with me on some songs. my girlfriend always tells me that i’m bad in bed and that i’m getting fad. my “MS Word”programm just tells me with those underlined red words that my english sucks big time and furthermore my german in interviews is even worse.

honestly,i never thought about all those things mentioned above.
