Lately I got more and more interested in the history of Brussels, especially in the architecture. Since I pass the Citroën building almost every day, I got curious who the architect of this masterpiece of the 1930′s was. After doing some short research I learned that it was designed by the architects Alexis Dumont and Marcel Van Goethem under supervision of the Parisian architect Maurice Ravazé in 1933.
These two architects also designed the Shell building (now known as ‘Central Gate’) close to the Central Station. This was built between 1931 and 1934 and like the Citroen building its style is heavily influenced by the modernistic and art deco movements.
